RAPPORT IN ENGLISH LEARNING

Establishing a good relationship in class is the key to keep enthusiasm because students feel more motivated and thus develop better academic performance. According to Davis (2003) the relationship between teachers and students, which is called rapport, intrinsically impacts students and their academic success. Since, thanks to the development of rapport, students feel comfortable in classes, they tend to be participatory even in the teaching process through webinars. As Frisby and Martin (2010) point out, students who have a good relationship with their teachers generally perform better academically than students who have not established a good relationship with their educators. Those students who do not feel empathy or comfort with the class and with their teachers, they will not develop their skills in a productive way that allows them to obtain a high achievement in class. For example, if students do not have motivation or enough confidence to speak, they will not answer any of the questions that the teacher asks in class. Online classes are challenging in building rapport in class, but there are many techniques that instructors can use to create a suitable environment to create unwavering communication in class. In online classes, it is necessary to build enthusiasm and academic achievement through rapport.

Building rapport is the key point to show students that teachers care for them. Teachers show they care through a variety of activities and attitudes in class that portraits a respectful interest in them as people worthy of attention. Some ideas for activities include, as Peter Paccone states in his article (2020) greeting students with a smile or a famous phrase from a book or movie that they can identify with; creating class norms with their collaboration in digital platforms such as Padlet or Google Docs; learning students names associating their voice to their face; use rapport building questions to know their interests, needs and preferences through Google Forms, Flipgrid or on camera live; sharing something personal related to the content via Zoom, Facebook, blog posts, etc.; and showcase their good work in any social network group or publishing their performances in a website. Educators can use any creative way in digital platforms to show they care for his or her students.

To sum up, having rapport in your online classes can bring a lot of good benefits to your students and your experience. Its correct implementation will lead to the development of a good classroom environment and student performance will be better. Teachers show they care through activities that emphasize student’s expression of who they are and what their interests are, as well as the teacher can do so. The aim is that students feel appreciated and awarded because of what they do in class.

Then, I took a shower, got dressed. Though I was already late to work, so I decided to write my boss to explain the situation which I didn't mean to have: I was a little sick.  I took the bus at 7 and a half in the morning because the buses were taking too much time to arrive. The tea that teared British power down

In times when the US was a colony of Britain it depended on the monopolized market of tea the British stablished due to its deal with the East India Comany, assuring there was no other competitor as provider of this plant. However its price was exorbitant for the North American colonies, thus they decided to turn to Dutch smugglers who sneaked in tea and sold it much less expensive. Rather than change the price for better reception, they imposed a series of acts. Those series of acts caused resentment in the colonies as they had to paid overpriced things due to taxes. They outraged thinking it was unfair plus felt unable to be represented in those kind of decisions of the government. Though the British Parlamiament allowed the tea to be cheaper, taxes were still in effect so they acted out of principle considering it unfair. They emptied the Dartmouth and two other ships full of tea. Two years later the US signed the Declaration of Independence. This event was the path to revoluti...
