In times when the US was a colony of Britain it depended on the monopolized market of tea the British stablished due to its deal with the East India Comany, assuring there was no other competitor as provider of this plant. However its price was exorbitant for the North American colonies, thus they decided to turn to Dutch smugglers who sneaked in tea and sold it much less expensive. Rather than change the price for better reception, they imposed a series of acts.
Those series of acts caused resentment in the colonies as they had to paid overpriced things due to taxes. They outraged thinking it was unfair plus felt unable to be represented in those kind of decisions of the government.
Though the British Parlamiament allowed the tea to be cheaper, taxes were still in effect so they acted out of principle considering it unfair. They emptied the Dartmouth and two other ships full of tea. Two years later the US signed the Declaration of Independence. This event was the path to revolution.
